Committee Descriptions

Assistant Producer (1)

-          Assist producer in organization and operation of Varieties Central Committee

-          Responsible for working with the Technical Director in overseeing the Stage, Lights, Spotlight, and Sound Directors

-          Coordinate with Judges and Trophies to organize the judges’ line up

Online Communications/PR (1)

        -      Focus on social networking aspects of public relations (i.e. facebook, twitter, and other online integration)

        -      Update the Varieties website with pertinent information and scheduling updates

Public Relations (2)

-          Responsible for the overall outward appearance and presence of Varieties to the Iowa State, Ames, and surrounding communities

-          Develop press releases for distribution to local media outlets

-          Work with MU Graphics to design theme for promotional materials

-          Find ways to reach out to Ames community through free media outlets

Dramatics Directors (3)

-          Act as liaisons between skit groups and Varieties Central

-          Guide groups through the skit development process and

-          Perform skit critiques throughout the practice period

Judges and Trophies (1)

-          Recruit and maintain judges

-          Coordinate training times and create judges schedules for first, second, and final cuts

-          Purchase trophies and awards

Emcee and Vignettes (1)

-          Recruit emcees for each weekend OR find a group willing to do it every weekend

-          Coordinate emcee and vignettes first cuts

-          Recruit vignette acts for each weekend

-          Work with students and organizations to scout for talent and encourage them to compete in Varieties

-          Serve as the first contact to participants in these two competitions

Lights, Spotlight and Sound Directors (3)

        -       Run your respective aspect of the performance during all show times and rehearsals

        -       Contribute to important changes on the Central Committee in technical aspects of performances

Stage Director (1)

        - Control all on-stage aspects during performances including the curtain, hanging backdrops and all props

Technical Director (1)

        -       Oversee all important day of performance activities

-          Revise rulebook, making important changes to the day of performance

-       Work directly with lights, spotlight, and sound directors
